NAPALM DEATH - GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY GRIND

Napalm Death is among the most influential bands in the history of extreme music. They are credited with inventing and defining the grindcore genre by incorporating elements of hardcore punk and thrash metal with short songs, fast tempos, deep guttural vocals and sociopolitical lyrics. Napalm Death was formed near Birmingham, England in 1981 by Nik Bullen and Miles Ratledge while still in their early teenage years. The duo had been playing in amateur bands since 1980 as an extension of their fanzine writing, and went through a number of names before choosing Napalm Death in mid 1981. The band was initially inspired by the early wave of punk bands, particularly the anarcho-punk movement. The band's debut album 'Scum', released in 1987 by Earache Records, had a huge impact on the global metal community. Over time, the band was influenced by death metal even as they helped shape its future. Interestingly, today's Napalm Death includes no original members. In the early years, a talented cast of characters passed through the band's ranks including Justin Broadrick (Godflesh), Bill Steer (Carcass) and Lee Dorrian (Cathedral). As seen in the chart below, the reach of the band's family tree is rivaled only by its influence. While the founding members are all long gone, the lineup of vocalist Mark "Barney" Greenway, bassist Shane Embury, guitarist Mitch Harris and drummer Danny Herrera has remained consistent since 1991. Relentlessly they grind it out.
